Short Hair, Don’t Care!

I was inspired to create a “Short Hair, Don’t Care!” collage recently by a dear friend of mine who is going through chemo for breast cancer. She is facing it all with grace and courage, but it struck me that so often, most people just don’t know what to say in these situations, and instead of being there to support loved ones in their hour of need, they back away, because they don’t want to say or do the wrong thing.
Let them know that you are there for them! Why not show up at their house with prepped meals, because you know they don’t have the energy to cook right now, or you could pay for a spa day to treat them while they go through their ordeals.

And why not something funny that will help them to smile? I think that there is a niche for sassy, badass gifts for people who are dealing with cancer, or any other debilitating disease. This collage could be a great gift for a loved one that is dealing with illness, but more importantly, you should give the gift of your friendship and love, so they know they are not alone.

Earth Day 2018

One of my main focuses as an artist is to upcycle old forlorn items into something new. In my jewelry making, I often use old beads and chains that were donated to me, or that I've found at thrift stores and yard sales. In my cards and mixed media collages, I always use old scraps of paper that most people would throw away. I also like to use some of the bits and pieces of furniture and decor that get abandoned in old houses. (We see a lot of those in the real estate business) This is the small bar-station I made for myself out of an old suitcase and two kitchen drawers!

The focus for Earth Day this year is to reduce the amount of plastic that we use. Simple changes like bringing reusable bags to the grocery store, or not using straws, has a huge impact. There is a brilliant idea on Kickstarter right now, called the Final Straw! You can follow this link for more information: www.kickstarter.com/finalstraw

New Necklaces!

So last week I started playing with some raw crystal beads and started a few new pieces. They are a little different from my usual styles, but I'm loving the results so far. These two are MINE! ... I often make new things with myself in mind first, asking myself, would I wear these?? So then I form an emotional attachment, and can't bear the thought of selling them. This, obviously, is a problem as an artist. I tend to form a lot of emotional attachments to my work. I guess I need to get over that if I ever want to be successful!
However, I will be adding two new Ice Queen necklaces to my Etsy shop later today, and the Oil Slick necklaces will be coming soon, but I need a few more supplies and a good day to take photos before they will be ready. I will also be adding lots of new earrings which I am very excited about! (And yes, I may have kept one or two of those for my own personal collection too...)

Which is your favourite, the Ice Queen necklace in the left, or the Oil Slick one on the right??

My Face Is A Canvas.

Those of you that have known me for a while will know that I love any excuse to dress up in costumes and play with makeup! Halloween is definitely one of my favourite holidays, and I usually have my costumes picked out about a year in advance! (Don’t ask me what I’ll be this year, it’s a secret.)
Even before I started going all-out for Halloween, I used to have a lot of fun with makeup looks when I was younger. And I would get a lot of funny looks in return, haha! So I consider my face to be a canvas, and another way to express myself through my art.
These days, there are so many different makeup trends and tutorials, it is hard to keep up. I have definitely never been a follower of fashion fads, and just do what I feel like, and what seems to suit me. I have had so many compliments over the years, and people often ask what exactly I do to come up with these looks. So my question to you is, should I start filming video tutorials of my costume makeup to share with you all??  Is that something anyone would be interested in?

Steampunk Sale!

Who else loves all things Steampunk?! I’ll admit I didn’t even know the name until about 7 years ago, but I was always drawn to all things Victorian, Science-Fiction-y, Gothic and beautiful-in-an-industrial-way! My boyfriend actually introduced me to the correct nomenclature, telling me he thought I would be into it. It turns out I already was, I just didn’t know the name. Since then I have really enjoyed creating jewelry and collages with Steampunky themes.
Speaking of Steampunk jewelry, I am currently running a 30% off SALE on all my Steampunk brooches and hat pins in my Etsy shop, OriginalSinArt! So if you were thinking of getting one of these, now is the time. They make perfect gifts for yourself or loved ones, are great for costumes, cosplay, or just to add some Steampunk whimsy to any outfit!
